Ride for Victory Very Successful |
The Central Auto Racing Boosters first Annual Ride for the Victory is now in the history books. The ride was very successful for a first time event with 148 participants in nine cars/trucks and 80 motorcycles.
Jack Twibell, Event Manager for Worth Harley-Davidson sent the following message to C.A.R.B., "I have seen many Rides/Events put on, by many different groups and this was BY FAR the BEST 1st Annual Ride in KC EVER put on!!! I hope that everybody there will be able to say I was at the first one! The morning events began with FOX 4 on site covering the event with their Sunday morning show. The Kansas City Star sent over a photographer, and KSHB TV 41 also arrived to cover the start of the event.
Mayor Joe Reardon kicked off the event with a short speech thanking all the riders. Victory Junction Midwest CEO Mike Lepore provided the riders a brief report on the Victory Junction Camp to be and the original established in North Carolina.
At 11:15, with a police escort the ride began with a beautiful white Silverado provided by McCarthy Chevrolet leading the way. At 11:30 the motorcylces, again with a police escort, started their portion of the ride following co-chairs Carrie Woodson and Skip Richardson.
The vehicles returned from their ride at approximately 1:30. The band "The Secrets" provided music starting at 2:00 and the motorcyles began returning shortly thereafter. Everyone then participated in a silent auction, drawing prizes were distributed (everyone was a winner), everyone who partipated in the scavenger hunt received a commerative Ride for the Victory koozie compliments of Worth Harley Davidson, and finally at 3:45 the winner was drawn for the Harley Davidson swing provided by Buz's Muffler.
Keeping with the theme of this event, "One Racing Family helping another", over $7,000 was collected from this event for the Midwest Victory Junction Camp. Thank you to everyone who joined in the ride, volunteered and assisted with registration, set up, clean up, cooking, etc. Plans are already in the works to make the 2010 "Ride for the Victory" even bigger and better.
Once again C.A.R.B. would like to thank:
